| Case Management | Crisis Intervention and De-escalation Training This interactive virtual workshop will cover techniques for de-escalating complex client encounters, incidents, and crises. We will cover developing both interpersonal skills – practical techniques and exercises to best work with our clients when they aren’t “at their best.” This training will also include agency and systems level considerations, crafting and implementing agency policies and procedures which support both staff and clients in these situations. Together, we will explore the balancing act that is the marriage of theory and practice, maintaining ethical and professional boundaries, exercising self-awareness and emotional intelligence, and implementing a trauma-informed, client-centered, and harm reduction framework. | Case Management | Problem Gambling Training There has been a dramatic shift in the past 10 years in both the substance use and mental health fields. Not only are providers recognizing the importance of integrating treatment for multiple substances (e.g. alcohol, drug and tobacco use) but also the need to include mental health disorders into clinical formulations. However, the screening, assessment and treatment of gambling disorder often falls through the cracks, even in well-developed co-occurring disorder enhanced programs. This training will focus on how integration of services can be developed in other behavioral health settings as well as prevention programs. This training will also cover how people experiencing homelessness, underserved communities, and people with a co-occurring disorder are at a greater risk level for problem gambling. Participants will be encouraged to adapt select philosophies and treatment interventions into their own programs. This training is relevant to both treatment and prevention, and will include lecture, group discussion, and learning tasks. | Race Equity | Restoring Relationships Training This training offers support to supervisors and emerging leaders as we are all encouraged to engage in deeper conversations to restore relationships around equity and inclusion in our communities. We cannot create equity solely by ending an inequitable system. Social change can come only if we incorporate racial equity and inclusion at the very core of our work. In this training we will review restorative justice principles and discuss how they can be applied to our homeless response system. | Housing Strategy | Housing Quality Standards (HQS) Inspection Training This training is in partnership with the Connecticut Department of Housing with Pat Kelson Associates, a certified inspection company, providing practical training on conducting Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspections for HUD-funded programs. Housing Quality Standards (HQS) are minimum standards for tenant-based programs and are required both at initial occupancy and during the term of the lease. HQS standards apply to the building and premises, as well as to the unit.
