Black History Month Spotlight of the Week:
Nichelle Hilton of New Opportunities

A special thanks to William Rybczyk for nominating Nichelle Hilton in recognition for her leadership and service to Connecticut’s homeless response system and the people it serves.

Ms. Hilton currently serves as the Program Manager for the New Beginnings Emergency Shelter and Hospitality Center in Meriden. Ms. Hilton has been working in this capacity for the past 8 months and previously served as the Program Development Support Specialist for the same program. Ms. Hilton is committed to providing care and compassion for the homeless population in the Meriden region. Ms. Hilton has provided leadership and vision while operating the Emergency Shelter throughout the current pandemic. Ms. Hilton oversaw the decompression of the emergency shelter program during the onset of the pandemic which led to operations being run in multiple locations. Ms. Hilton took on her current role under the most tragic of circumstances as the previous manager of the emergency Shelter David Dudley passed away unexpectedly. Ms. Hilton has stepped in to provide leadership which has continued on the legacy of David Dudley and has impacted hundreds of homeless individuals and families in the Meriden region. Ms. Hilton is unquestionably an unsung hero during these most unprecedented times.
