Best Practices of Emergency Shelters and Crisis Services

December 8, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Free
The Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness invites you to a special full day training, “Best Practices of Emergency Shelters and Crisis Services in an Effective Crisis Response System,” presented by Kay Moshier McDivitt and Cynthia Nagendra of the National Alliance to End Homelessness.

Along with many communities across the country, Connecticut is retooling the homeless crisis response system to coordinate services and reorient programs to a Housing First approach that emphasizes rapid connection to permanent housing, while mitigating the negative experience of homelessness. An effective homeless crisis response system includes a critical role for emergency shelters and crisis services to provide immediate access without barriers to entry, while stable housing and supports are being rapidly secured.

The goal of this training is to provide guidance on how to provide housing-focused, low-barrier, and safe shelter, crisis, and diversion services with the goal of quickly exiting clients to permanent housing solutions.
